My early student days

Michele Sletcher

Recently I sorted through some old folders in the studio and came across some mementos from my student days at College. I had completely forgotten I had them! My memories came rushing back and I sat on the studio floor reminiscing about the ‘good old days’. The last of four years at College, my Art Specialist training was the best year and although lectures were intensive and lasted from 9am to 4pm every day, we all had such camaraderie together, through good times and bad. The lecturers were incredible…generous, supportive, extremely knowledgeable, and creatives themselves. I have so much gratitude towards them and still refer back to their teachings and guidance today.

Although formal study in art is not a prerequisite for artistic success, I found being exposed to such a wide variety of processes, mediums and ways to express one’s creativity extremely motivating and inspiring. It provided a wonderful foundation for me, and it was this range exposure that gave me the confidence to pass on my knowledge and enthusiasm for the visual arts to my students. My experiences opened a door for me and for that I am extremely grateful!

Until Next time 😊

Michele
