Collection: Lost and Found Collection

Lost and Found is a collection of relief artworks that focuses on the precarious position of the reef and the danger of it being changed forever. They symbolise resilience and embody the extreme joy at discovering surviving species, but also their vulnerability and the devastation experienced at the loss of others. Through the use of mixed media and recycled and repurposed materials, such as plastic, paper and items destined for the tip, I explore these secret places. They show signs of decline, such as coral bleaching, but also the joy of rejuvenation seen in the bright colours and variety of textures, showing hope and that all is not yet lost. I weave my childhood memories, love of the coastline and desire to know more about what is hidden below the ocean’s surface into each artwork. They create a tangible and real experience of the reef, creating excitement and curiosity, as well as an awareness of the unusual beauty, diversity and vulnerability of this hidden world.

Through recycling and repurposing of materials, items that ironically play a role in their decline either through manufacture or by being discarded, I provide an example of how we can make sustainable art that can effectively communicate, educate and provide enjoyment and inspire at the same time.
