Regrowth 3 focuses on the extreme vulnerability as well as the amazing resilience of life on the reef. Through the use of mixed media and recycled/repurposed materials, such as plastic, paper and items destined for the tip, I explore this secret place. I weave my childhood memories, love of the coastline and desire to know more about what is hidden below the ocean's surface, into each artwork. Here the reef shows signs of devastating decline but also of rejuvenation as seen in the vibrant colours and variety of textures, showing hope and that all is not yet lost. Through observation and inspiration, I provide a tangible experience of the reef, creating excitement and curiosity, as well as an awareness of the unusual beauty , diversity and vulnerability of this hidden world. This is an example of sustainable art that can effectively communicate, educate, inspire and provide great joy at the same time.
